The Magi stopped to chat with King Herod and asked for directions to the new King. KH was unaware of this new leader and could not provide assistance. He asked them to keep him posted when they locate the child.
Later, the Magi were informed via visions not to tell KH about Jesus. So, they ditched the turnpike and took the backroads home. Adios, Herod.
KH got miffed and ordered the killing of all males under the age of two.
Joey, Marie, and Jesus escaped to Egypt and took the expensive gifts with them. It is not known if they were livin' large or under the radar.
